Sustainable Business
A sustainable business can be broadly defined as an organisation that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Accordingly, a sustainable company focuses not only on the economic value it creates for the benefit of its employees and shareholders, but also on its environmental and social impact on society as a whole.
Sustainability is no ‘green’ fad, it is an issue that well-run and dynamic businesses have adopted and are using to their long term advantage.
C3 And Sustainability
When we specify a flooring product for a commercial customer, we go one step further than the traditional benchmarks of price, appearance and performance – we take account of a fourth and perhaps more important issue, sustainability.
In order to achieve this we take account of a wide range of criteria for the product in question, embracing issues ranging from whether renewable energy was used in the manufacturing process to how the product can be recycled at the end of its life.
Eliminating waste:
Waste is bad for business, it is something you have bought and have either used inefficiently or you are paying again to dispose of it.
Reducing waste saves money, and it is always the best environmental option. C3 regularly specifies non-directional carpet tiles, these can be laid in a random pattern, with no need to lay all tiles in the same direction. This results in a substantial reduction in offcut waste when the tiles are laid. It saves you money, and contributes a sustainable dimension to the project.
Sustainable products:
Floorcoverings with a high content of recycled material, both in face-yarns and backings, are becoming increasingly available and we specify materials of this type as frequently as possible. It is also important to take account of the intended service life of the installation
Use of ICT:
C3 use a digitizer and specialist Callidus software to quantify our jobs and produce quotations, used in conjunction with laser measuring on site. This enables us to work with far more accuracy than traditional methods, again saving costs for our customers and reducing carpet waste to the minimum achievable. As often as possible, we will both send and ask to receive documents and drawings in digital format, saving wasted paper and transportation. Our estimating staff regularly work from home, saving unnecessary commuting. We are currently working on a Green Travel Plan for all staff at C3 which will add to the sustainability of our business, this will include improvement of facilities for our staff who cycle to work.

Firms see carbon as a bigger challenge than China
Major UK businesses see the need to tackle carbon emissions as a bigger challenge than competition from the developing world or terrorism, a survey has found.
ICM research surveyed 75 board directors at random from the list of FTSE50 companies.
The survey was on behalf of the Carbon-Neutral Company. Asked to rate the challenge to their business from climate change over the next ten years, over half of the directors rated it as six out of ten or above. Only one put it as not at all important.
The vast majority (93%) considered that “going beyond minimum legal obligations on environmental matters and being seen as a leader in the field is likely to be good for business”. |
