Our Overheating World

Climate change is caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other polluting gases building up in the planet’s atmosphere.

Carbon dioxide is a so-called greenhouse gas, which naturally exists in the atmosphere and helps to keep the planet warm enough for life to exist. But by massively adding to the volume of carbon dioxide through burning ever increasing amounts of fossil fuels, too much heat is becoming trapped in the atmosphere. This is creating more extreme weather, melting of the ice caps, floods and droughts. In turn this threatens to cost the lives of millions, ruin the livelihoods of hundreds of millions more and severely affect animal and plant life across the globe.

The UK Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor has stated that he believes climate change is more dangerous to us than terrorism, and Prime Minister Tony Blair has declared that climate change is the greatest long term threat we face.

Together We Can Make A Difference

At C3 we make every effort to run our business in the most environmentally sustainable way that we can (see Sustainability and Recycling pages).

Even so, it is inevitable that an installation of new flooring will carry a carbon cost, contributing to the growing threat of climate change.

Just as it is possible to offset the carbon cost of an air flight using an on-line calculator, and make a payment to neutralize it, we offer you the opportunity to offset your flooring project.

C3 Flooring operates a scheme which enables our customers to ensure that the flooring installation they purchase from us is Climate Neutral.

We encourage our customers to adopt the option of Climate Neutral supply, installation and maintenance.

We do this by calculating the total amount of carbon that is created as a result of the individual project. This includes the extraction and processing of the raw materials used to manufacture the flooring materials, the manufacturing process into completed goods, transportation, administration and sales, installation of the product on site, lifetime maintenance and the re-use, recycling or disposal of the product at the end of it’s installation period.

When we invest the offset funds in schemes to reduce or reverse these carbon emissions, our emphasis has shifted from solely concentrating on forestry projects, to investment in renewable and energy efficiency projects.

We also request that we are contacted one year ahead before the end of the flooring’s lifetime so that we can arrange for re-use or recycling of the uplifted flooring materials, the objective being to avoid landfill disposal at all possible.

Report fears climate risk to UK coastal regions
According to a new assessment by conservation group WWF, rising sea levels and dramatic increases in the frequency of storm surges resulting from climate change could bring devastation to UK coastal regions. By the end of this century, storm surges that now might be expected to occur once every 120 years could occur as frequently as every seven years, and 50-year events would happen every three years. The worst affected areas would be the east of England, particularly East Anglia, north Kent and the Thames estuary – which includes London and some of the most heavily populated parts of the UK.
